- Director of the “Centre For Islamic Development”, Halifax
The CID is a community-oriented da’wah organization. The Centre was established with the intent of providing a social support and educational outlet for the Muslim community, to understand Islam, and thus to defend it. The Centre provides Islamic courses on comparative religion and other areas of Islamic da’wah. A Qur’an tahfeedh program is available five days a week for men, women and children; these and other functions help Muslims living in the West keep their Islamic indentity. Another focal point of the Centre is countering the adverse and distorted views put forth on Islam and Muslims, through the media and otherwise. At the Centre, special efforts are made to promote and disseminate accurate information about Islam; by the grace of Allah, many people have accepted Islam as their way of life.

May 9th, 2008 at 2:33 amDear Zia Khan,
In regard to the cartoon published April 18 in the Chronicle Herald newspaper. I am afraid you have been misinformed about the nature of free speech and libelous. In Canada citizens are encouraged to vent feelings of frustration by expressing them through art, text and speech. I for one feel you are trying to stifle the Canadian soul with your idiosyncrasies. It was an elegant comment on a current event. Lighten up! Look around, can’t you see that you are being included in a very Canadian indeed North American practice. Rest assured, no one is attacking you. It’s just an opinion. You can respond in kind, you don’t have to get ugly and involve the police, and make false accusations about libelous views.
Our government has betrayed us, and you are the result. Please stop whining, we are suffering enough from embarrassment of having ever yoyo on the planet sporting a Canadian citizenship without contributing tax money to our coffers and being ferried back to Canada from all over the globe on our dime when we can’t even visit our good friends to the south without a passport.
Sincerely,
Mary Campbell

February 26th, 2009 at 10:05 pmDear Mary, get a hold of yourself. You need to be informed before you write. The caption was a lie , it was NOT “expressing art ,text and speech” . Please look up the word “libeious” and this is exactly what it means. Please get your facts right. Maybe next time someone can make a cartoon of you and put a blurb on top of you head that states that you are a mass killer. How would you like that. Then you would take a word out like …oh maybe …” libeious”. it only hurts when you are wearing the shoes. Please pay extra taxes next time.
